JMN Medical College & Hospital commemorated National Doctors’ Day, 2026, with profound reverence and remarkable enthusiasm on 1st July 2026, paying homage to the legendary physician, educationist, humanitarian and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose birth and death anniversaries are observed nationwide as National Doctors’ Day.
The celebration stood as a tribute to the relentless dedication, unwavering compassion, and exemplary service rendered by the medical fraternity. It also reflected the institution’s enduring commitment to fostering academic excellence, professional integrity, ethical medical practice, and humanitarian values among future healthcare professionals.
The occasion was graced by the esteemed management, Prof. Dr. Aniruddha Neogi, Director of Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Amita Ray, Principal, distinguished faculty members, administrative staff and MBBS students of JMN Medical College & Hospital. Adding a special dimension to the celebration, faculty members and students from JRS Public School, Chakdaha, joined the programme, transforming it into a meaningful platform for academic interaction, inspiration and community engagement.

The programme commenced with a warm and gracious welcome address delivered by Prof. Dr. Amita Ray, Principal of JMN Medical College, who highlighted the significance of National Doctors’ Day and emphasized the timeless values of dedication, empathy, and selfless service that define the medical profession.
The ceremonial inauguration was followed by the traditional Lighting of the Lamp, symbolizing the triumph of knowledge, wisdom, and humanity. The auspicious ceremony was performed by Prof. Dr. Aniruddha Neogi, Director, Academic Affairs of JMN Medical College and Hospital, along with the Vice Principal and esteemed faculty members of JRS Public School, setting an atmosphere of dignity and solemnity for the day’s proceedings.
The Director, Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Aniruddha Neogi, delivered an inspiring keynote address recounting the extraordinary life and multifaceted contributions of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose unparalleled service to medicine, education, and public administration continues to inspire generations of healthcare professionals.
The Vice Principal of JRS Public School also addressed the gathering, appreciating the invaluable role of doctors in society and encouraging students to embrace the ideals of compassion, discipline, and excellence.

The gathering then observed a solemn Floral Tribute Ceremony, where faculty members, staff, MBBS students and the visiting faculty and students from JRS Public School offered floral homage to Dr. B. C. Roy as a mark of profound respect and gratitude.

Celebrating Talent Through Culture
The celebration seamlessly transitioned into a vibrant cultural programme that reflected both creativity and gratitude by our students with soulful musical performances by Prapti Chowdhury (01st Year MBBS Student), Brato Roy (01st Year MBBS Student), Apalak Chatterjee (01st Year MBBS Student), and an elegant dance recital by Debapriya Maity (01st Year MBBS Student).
A captivating dramatic presentation portraying the inspiring life and humanitarian philosophy of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was enthralled the audience by our students Ritika Yadav (03rd Year MBBS Student), Pratim Majumder (02nd Year MBBS Student), Arman Ali Sarkar (02nd Year MBBS Student), Srijita Sarkar (02nd Year MBBS Student), Aditya Das (01st Year MBBS Student), Andrea Suantak (01st Year MBBS Student), Anushka Roul (01st Year MBBS Student), Maryam Khan (01st Year MBBS Student).
The celebration was further enriched by a profoundly inspiring and soul-stirring poem eloquently recited by Prof. Dr. Aniruddha Neogi, Director Academic Affairs, whose heartfelt words resonated deeply with the spirit of National Doctors’ Day and paid graceful tribute to the noble medical fraternity.

Following a brief tea break, the visiting students and faculty members of JRS Public School participated in an immersive institutional orientation programme designed to provide first-hand exposure to modern medical education.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Amita Ray, Principal of JMN Medical College and Hospital, the visitors explored the Anatomy Museum and experienced the institution’s state-of-the-art Digital Cadaver Facility, followed by an engaging interactive session where students enthusiastically discussed various aspects of medical science and career opportunities.
The orientation continued in guidance of Prof. Dr. Amita Ray, Principal of JMN Medical College and Hospital with educational visits to the Departments of Pathology and Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, where participants observed advanced laboratory infrastructure and gained valuable insights into diagnostic sciences, medical investigations, and practical learning methodologies.
